Before Marisa Ramondo launched her web design business, she worked 16 years for a multinational high tech company in a financial management capacity. In a classic example of multi-tasking, in addition to overseeing the financial activities of one of the company’s biggest manufacturing plants, in Pointe Claire, Québec, Marisa found the time to obtain a Certificate in Business Studies from Concordia University.

Marisa’s communication, management and leadership skills blossomed. One of her passions was mentoring the new arrivals in her department, showing them the ropes. However, when the collapse of the high tech industry came about, reactive changes in the company she had practically grown up in left Marisa feeling unchallenged in her work.

Marisa reflects: “If there is no challenge, no sense of accomplishment, I become easily bored, which is why I left the corporate world behind. I want to learn something new every day and I want to help people. I want to have fun and, more importantly, be myself.”

Marisa has always had a fascination for computers. She obtained a certificate in programming way back when programmers were using punch cards to run their programs and screens came in one color: green.

Her passion for the Internet was even stronger. While working full-time she would spend countless hours playing on the computer as her husband, much to his chagrin, can attest to. Her hobby was setting up websites for friends who were starting businesses, her daughter’s school, and various non-profit organizations. She loved it so much that in 1998 she decided to officially register her company. Her hope was that one day she could turn her hobby into a full-time job.

Well, in 2002, that is exactly what happened. Marisa gave the corporate world the pink slip and forged full speed ahead into building her company, Alexram Web Page Designs. She not only provides web design services, but also web hosting, web marketing and promotion, and web maintenance. In 2005, her company name changed to Alexram Internet Services to reflect the added multitude of services now offered.

Marisa calls herself an Interpreneur. Although her core business is web development, she also owns several online businesses. This helps her keep up-to-date on the various new techniques and developments that are taking place on the constantly-evolving Internet. Her passion lies in helping small-businesses get noticed online. More importantly, to create an online presence that will bring in positive results.

With more and more consumers going online daily, it has become more evident that if small businesses don’t get their own online presence, they are missing out on the same opportunities that the big companies are enjoying. Marisa is aware, and can appreciate how for some business owners, computers and the Internet can be intimidating. Her forte is bringing her clients to a more comfortable level of understanding the unknown. Her role then becomes part educator, part personal webmaster.

Marisa is a life-long learner. She constantly upgrades her knowledge base by attending seminars and recently completed an online course involving a relatively new field: Cyber law. As a member of the International Webmasters Association, Marisa is always at the forefront of the latest happenings of the Internet. This permits her to pass along her knowledge for the benefit of her clients. As one of them recently commented, "When it comes to creating a website that grabs and maintains visitor attention, Marisa Ramondo of Alexram Internet Services is a cyber wizard.”

On a personal note, Marisa lives on the West Island of Montreal with her husband of 23 years, a teenage daughter and two dogs. According to her definition of success, she’s got it down-pat!
